My Rescue Story:

An ad in the newspaper asked whether anyone had lost a 2 or 3 yr old dog, so we called to let them know that we'd like to meet him if no one claimed him. We were told that he didn't like anyone, even the rescuers, so they put him in their backyard and couldn't even get the cable off his neck that was so tight it left indentations. As soon as we entered the yard, he immediately approached my husband and sat at his feet. He wouldn't leave his side, so we took him home. He was rough around the edges with being disciplined, but he eventually became a wonderful companion. We took Smokey to the vet and he was in the 3rd stages of heartworm. After treatment, he never was sick again, until 1 1/2 months ago. He lived to a ripe old age of 15 yrs and passed away from heart disease 3 days ago. We love him so much and miss him always. We never could have asked for a better dog, companion, son, and friend. RIP Smokey Bear
