Aside from the fact that online shopping can’t be beat for convenience, there’s another good reason to purchase online: Some of your purchases can count as donations to your favorite canine causes. Several sites offer you the chance to shop using your favorite merchants, resulting in a donation at no extra expense to you.

Since 1997, has been providing donations through online shopping. Visitors select a cause from more than 44,000 organizations with over 1,700 dog-related charities represented. After shoppers browse through any of 800 online stores, each purchase made results in a donation. The percentage varies by store.

Similarly, permits shoppers to select a cause from more than 95,000 nonprofits and then shop to donate. Up to 30 percent of the purchase -- averaging about 3 percent -- goes to the selected cause.

Shoppers on eBay can donate through The eBay seller preselects the donation recipient and sets the donation rate from 10 to 100 percent. Sellers can then give proceeds from their sales to their favorite nonprofit. Possible recipients include nearly 180 animal nonprofits.
