Top 3 Apps for Dogs

If you own a smartphone and a dog, you’re in luck: App developers have come up with some wonderful applications that give dog owners access to useful information on the go. Here are three top dog apps:

1. Petfinder: As one of the top websites for shelters and rescues on the Internet, Petfinder has helped millions of animals find their forever homes. Petfinder’s mobile app is user-friendly and thorough, and it allows potential adopters to sort through the database by breed, age and location. Best of all, it won’t cost you anything.

2. Petoxins: The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is the resource for answers to your questions about poison control for domestic animals. This helpful app includes plants known to be poisonous to dogs, along with images of the plants and what symptoms they cause when ingested. This is a great tool for planning your garden or just when you’re out and about with your pet.

3. Pet First Aid: If you’re out on a walk and your dog suddenly develops a swollen muzzle, what do you do? This offering from Jive Media addresses some of the most common emergency situations with pets to help owners quickly assess a situation. It won’t replace the advice of a live veterinarian -- especially in life-threatening situations -- and it is not an exhaustive resource, but the information presented can help owners determine the next step. In addition, the app contains pet profiles to allow owners to track their pets’ vaccine history, medications and veterinarian contact information.

These apps allow owners immediate access to information that’s not only entertaining, but also useful. Who would have thought you could pick out your next adopted pet while sitting at the car wash?
